Part of the Gov2Gov series

Hosted by the Canadian HIgh Commission and presented by Social Media Club and FutureGov Consultancy

As the boundaries between our countries have become easier to transverse, so to have the boundaries between our citizens and our governments.

Today social media enables citizens to discover, connect, and share with others from all over the world, without regard to international borders. They teach, support and learn from one another, all without seeking 'permission' from any formal 'institutions'. Meanwhile, many of the people inside government are already using the same tools as these citizens for similar purposes - to connect, engage, and build communities of interest. In the process they are reinventing the role of government and with it the very nature of civic engagement.

Whether you call it Government 2.0, Open Government, or Digital Engagement, the end result is the same - there are new ways government can serves its citizens and new ways citizens can serve their governments.

For this panel discussion, we bring together leaders from the Canadian High Commission in London, UK Central Government, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the United States Department of State with Social Media leaders to discuss the changing nature of civic engagement and the relationships between citizens and their government.

Join us to discuss this important topic and to explore what governments from around the world can learn from each other.
